The Floral Parade was established in 1930 featuring automobiles decorated with flowers, and it rolled under the direction of the Merchants Retail Association. By 1940, MCA President, Alfred Lewis Staples, established the Floral Parade Committee and the first Juvenile Court Monarchs ruled over the parade. A Juvenile Court of attendants were added a few years later. Today, The Floral Parade hosts 16 floats with 11 sponsors. Each sponsor selects youths ages 5 – 13 years old to ride their floats. It is the only traditional street parade solely for children.
